How do I create a matter through the API?

Send a POST to https://app.fluentcase.com/api/matters with an API token. Nest matter fields under a Matter key; a request without it is rejected with “The Matter key is required”.

• With "hasParties": false, Matter.name is required. To create parties at the same time, omit hasParties and send a parties array; the name is then built from the party names if you leave it out.
• attorney_responsible is a user ID. Non-numeric values are ignored.
• IDs are specific to your firm. Look them up with GET /api/users, GET /api/case-types, and GET /api/case-statuses; IDs copied from another firm or a test account leave fields blank or wrong.
• Instead of IDs, you can send Matter.case_type (a slug such as workers-compensation) or Matter.case_status (a name such as Intake; created if it doesn’t exist). An ID takes precedence when both are sent.
• A 403 means the token’s user lacks permission to create matters. A 405 usually means the wrong HTTP method or URL.
