Related Cases
Related Cases help staff see when two or more matters are connected. Use them for companion claims, related injuries, consolidated litigation, or matters that should be reviewed together.
When to Link Matters
Link matters when staff need context that is not obvious from a single case file, such as:
- Multiple claims involving the same incident
- Related workers’ compensation and civil matters
- Companion employment matters
- Consolidated or coordinated cases
- Matters that share important contacts, documents, or deadlines
Good Related-Case Notes
When linking matters, add enough context that another user understands why the relationship exists. Include the practical reason, not just the other matter number.
Example notes:
- Same accident; civil PI case tracks third-party recovery.
- Companion employment matter for same client.
- Consolidated for discovery only.
Related Cases vs. Matter Merge
Related Cases keep matters separate while making the relationship visible. Matter merge combines records and should be used only when duplicate or overlapping matter records need to become one matter.
